Young Female Orangutan
Young female Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) guarding a patch of spilled milk on the feeding platform at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, Sabah, East Malasia, Borneo, South East Asia. Although photographed in the Rehabilitation Centre these animals are free to come and go as they please: to leave the Sanctuary and spread out into the forest. The young animals tend to stay closer to the Centre and the older animals move out and eventually leave the Centre completely. The average body mass for an adult female is around 38 kilograms. These animals are endangered due to habitat destruction mainly due to the establishment of Palm Oil plantations. Help protect these animals and others by avoiding processed food and other products which include Palm Oil.
