Australian Long-eared Bat
The lesser long-eared bat (Nyctophilus geoffroyi) is a species of vesper bat. It is found only in Australia. There are not many other similar features between the bats — vesper bats mostly eat insects, are nocturnal, have poorly developed eyes and large ears, whereas megabats like the European long-eared bat mostly eat fruit and nectar, are not nocturnal and have well-developed eyes. Megabats have many characteristics that suggest they are sister taxa to primates but microbats, including lesser long eared bats are more separated on the evolutionary tree.
